GITCHO Vote On in August and November 2019 to Get Ready in 2020

By Friends of Cushingberry

"2019 Elections in Highland Park, Warren, Lansing and, Hamtramck are serving as benchmarks for the 2020 Primary and General election."

On Tuesday, August 6th, 2017 and, Tuesday November 5th, 2017, local elections will be held in many cities in the State of Michigan. Cities such as Highland Park, Lansing, Hamtramck, and others will be hosting primary elections for positions of Mayor, City Clerk, and Council seats. This is also the first election where same day voting rights are in full effect.

Therefore if you want vote on Tuesday, you are required to go to the Secretary of State's office FIRST, then drive back to your precinct to cast your ballot. By requiring a person to drive to a Secretary of State's office may be construed as a form of voter suppression.  SOS branch offices may have to have ballots at the branch to accommodate same day voters or, voters need to have the ability to register to vote at the precinct then cast their ballot.

Lt. Gov Gilcrest says
There will be no hidden figures in Voting or Census 2020 counting.

To solve this problem City, and County clerks must have tablets at voting precincts to allow people to register and cast their ballots, instead of travelling to a Secretary of State's office that closes at 8pm. In November of 2018 the voters wanted government that worked FOR the people. The people elected Governor Gretchen Whitmer, and Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson to make government more responsive to the people..

Under the leadership of Lt. Governor Garlin Gilcrest this small detail in the same day voter registration process will be addressed and solved with the use of technology. Lt. Gov Gilcrest currently serves as the highest ranking Information Technology professional in State Government. Innovations in voter registration and coordinating 2020 census data collection will have the backing of the executive office and legal protection by Attorney General Dana Nessel.

No Voter Left Behind!
Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson says let my people vote!

If your city is holding an election on August 6th, get your ballot now from your City Clerk or, be a test case for same day voting on primary and general election days in 2019. Now you really don't have an excuse NOT to vote. If you believe in a cause and want your voice to be heard, just show up and vote.  Foreign and domestic voting influencing is in full effect from Russia to Lansing and it will not stop. Facial recognition and deep-fake technology will be out to confuse the voters. The only way to combat this is to read and research a candidate and find out who is backing them, what are they priority issues, and prior performance. You can't be a person that was against Marijuana legalization and, show up months later to say that you support it.

This goes for D.I.N.O. Democrats(Democrats In Name Only) and others who have betrayed the public trust. Change is needed in the City of Lansing and the person to get the job done is Scott Hughes in Ward 1.  The City of Highland Park has the opportunity to opt-into Marijuana legalization on their ballot. A YES vote will allow the city to fix roads, open schools, and pay for a public school systems that was ravaged by looters and con men in the form of Emergency Management.

Yes people, 2019 is one year away from 2020 and, the time to practice your voting power is NOW!

Why #WeToo are Voting For George Cushingberry as State Senator

The Committee to Elect George Cushingberry Jr. State Senator District 2. Press Release.

The Man For You In District 2

The August Primary election is a very important election to participate in. As in all elections the direction of your community and the quality of life is at stake. We are experiencing now the game plan of the opposition as we pursue your vote and trust to send us to Lansing to get the job done. The insurance companies have contributed to the downfall of Michigan through outrageous rates and price fixing. This is the main reason people are running from accidents to avoid prosecution. We have City of Detroit leadership wanting to build more buildings on the grounds of Detroit City Airport shutting it down while there are massive amounts of buildings available to do what he wants.  We have people endorsing candidates who have aided and abetted in the creation of the Educational Achievement authority that was raided by the Federal Government for fraud.

When George Cushingberry Jr. gets to Lansing MI, this is what he will do.

  • Implement Common Sense Insurance Rates
  • Restoring Accountability in Public Education with caps on the creation of charter schools
  • Re-Investing in the Mt. Elliot Development Project that includes a working Detroit City Airport for General, Educational, and Commercial use.
  • Taxation, Regulation of Marijuana including expunging ALL convictions in Michigan.

For example, as a State Representative, George Cushingberry sponsored a bill for good times credit for non violent offenders. As a Detroit City Council member, he was responsible for the upgrade of Livernois Avenue through implementing grants for streetlights, sidewalks, and supporting local businesses on the Avenue of Fashion.

The Sexual Harassment and the manipulation of the #MeToo movement is the new strategy to sabotage political campaigns. Just like the Ebola crisis that disappeared after the 2014 election, the sexual harassment and other negative "news", we are fully expecting this play call from the opposition. Sexual Harassment is gender neutral and all legitimate claims should be investigated. We feel that the timing of the filing was to get maximum damage from the City of Detroit and to derail the Cushingberry campaign.  When you examine the record of the other candidates, George Cushngberry has the documented proof of getting the job done.

Bear Bryant was quoted once as saying "In order to catch a fast negro running the ball, you have to hire another one to catch them" because he finally acknowledged the fact that you needed to include the black players he did not want on his team.  Distraction politics is only going to carry you so far and blitzing the campaign with charges and innuendo will not work.

Therefore do not be confused by watching Fox News, just screen out their blitz with your vote for George Cushingberry Jr.

Fact:

  • George Cushingberry Jr. still has his law license
  • The traffic stop was deemed to be unprofessionally handled by two patrol officers who wisely deleted the tape of their misconduct.
    • We chose not to press charges against filing a false police report because we respect the men and women of the Detroit Police Department, especially the retirees.
    • We want an apology written to Sgt. Smith by media reporters for promoting insubordination because of race.
  • The City's finances are no longer under the control of a State Appointed Manager under the direction of George Cushingberry Jr as the chairman of the Budget Audit Finance Committee.
  • George Cushingberry Jr. is the ONLY candidate on the ballot who has supported the legalization of marijuana and has history and evidence to prove it.
  • Will take on President Trump and Bill Schuette and scold them on their brand of exclusionary racist politics.

Don't get blinded by the blitz of bad news coming from media outlets like Fox and other haters.  Screen them out with your vote!

From now until, Tuesday August 7th, and again in November 6th, Elect George Cushingberry Jr, the man for you in District 2.

Forgive The Lame Duck! Vote in the August 2018 Primary Election

By Richard C. Clement
Precinct Delegate 92 - Democrat

If you support change in Lansing and, want to protect your vote from being ripped off, you must  show up and vote in the August 7th,  primary election starting June 22nd, 2018, at the Detroit Elections Bureau on 2978 Grand Boulevard Detroit MI 48202.  When you vote in the Michigan August Primary, you are voting to prevent a Lame Duck from changing the Laws in Lansing this December after you vote in November.  From the illegally enacted Marijuana moratorium in the City of Detroit, to the announced intent of Michigan State Senator Rick Jones and his friends to undo all Marijuana legalization in the December lame duck session, you must show up and vote!

The Chairman
House Appropriations Committiee 2008-2010

Vote for candidates who have your best interests at heart and share your values. Don’t be confused by watching Fox News or any other troll outfit that manufactures news from false statements and innuendo.  Voters, please take the time to look at each candidate’s history on issues like, improving reading literacy, crime reduction, Marijuana reform, financial justice for state employees, and where they want to invest your tax money.  This includes the oversight and management of the funds against measured goals specified by law.

By voting in the primary election, you will prevent the establishment of another Emergency Manager policy that has done so well for the State of Michigan these last 8 years. Just look at the examples of their fine work statewide, especially in Flint and the Detroit Public Schools.

Reverse the Criminal Neglect to our Youth and City
#FreeKDET

By electing a warrior like George Cushingberry Jr as your State Senator in District 2, Emergency Managers like Roy Roberts and others will brought before hearings to explain why he shut down Benjamin O. Davis High School to transfer the FCC and FAA certification programs to the West Michigan Aviation academy in Grand Rapids Michigan injuring the educational opportunities for Muslim, Black and Latino children to study aviation as a career.

Allowing vultures for profit to pick winners and losers out of our children’s education is an in-excusable, criminal act upon our youth. We want and demand restitution from the spot of the oppression by re-investing into teachers and students.

Elect Dana Nessel - Michigan Attorney General

Furthermore, when you vote for Dana Nessel as your next Michigan Attorney General, you will allow her office to file criminal charges against all of these Emergency Managers so that the healing can begin. Healing will include the immediate transfer of state employee defined contributions to employee defined benefits. By doing this for current employees in state and local governments, monies are protected from the unpredictability of the stock markets going up and down. Restoration and respect for the State Constitution will allow a revamped Attorney General’s office to expunge all marijuana crimes for all Michigan citizens.

Vote early and get it done before you go on vacation for the summer, going away to school, or other reasons you have for not being in town.  Do not let anyone tell you that your vote does not count because they are wrong! Your vote in the August primary will help stop voter suppression in advance. Therefore please take the time to vote because your future depends on it.

From June 22nd until November 6th, 2018 7:59:59pm.

Forgive the Lame Duck in Advance! Vote Now!

Reasoning On Why The City Must Abandon The Anti-Marijuana Reform Lawsuit

By Richard Clement - Marijuana Policy Consultant

After further review of Wayne County Circuit Court Judge Robert Colombo's decision to overturn the voter approved Proposals A and B,  a further analysis of the Michigan Zoning Enabling Act was undertaken by interested parties like me.  The question becomes:

Is a ballot initiative similar to a protest petition as specified in the Mi Zoning Enabling Act?  (MCL 125.3403 - Amending a zoning ordinance)

Did the people speak clearly to the issue of amending the zoning ordinance?  It was clear that the original ordinance was not a choice of the people but, administratively enacted by a majority vote of the City Council.   The owners/voters of the land objected and, responded clearly with their vote, exceeding the 20% threshold required in Section 403 of the Zoning Enabling Act.

Why Can't Weed Be Friends

The ultimate decision maker of laws are the people who have to live by them.  Therefore the petitions were filed according the law and, the case should be dismissed by the Michigan Supreme Court.  To review the opposition's argument that the neighborhoods do not want them, a tight review of the voting results show that a very large majority of the opposition is located in 10 distinct neighborhoods or voting precincts within City Council Districts 1, and 2.  The City of Detroit has 490 neighborhood precincts and 480 of them voted yes on both proposals (98% Yes / 2% no)

The resources spent with the Law Department must be redirected to Information Technology development, hiring Marijuana compliance inspectors to make sure that quality products are being sold and, customer service are being provided as requested by the majority of the citizens of the City.

To make this happen, you must call or email Mayor Duggan and all nine Detroit City Council members asking them to  Cease and Desist with the lawsuit and, allow Information Technology professionals the ability to do their jobs for the people who have hired them in the City of Detroit.

Michigan Zoning Enabling ACT  Section (125.3403)

125.3403 Amendment to zoning ordinance; filing of protest petition; vote. Sec. 403.
(1) An amendment to a zoning ordinance by a city or village is subject to a protest petition as required by this subsection. If a protest petition is filed, approval of the amendment to the zoning ordinance shall require a 2/3 vote of the legislative body, unless a larger vote, not to exceed a 3/4 vote, is required by ordinance or charter. The protest petition shall be presented to the legislative body of the city or village before final legislative action on the amendment and shall be signed by 1 or more of the following:
  • (a) The owners of at least 20% of the area of land included in the proposed change.
  • (b) The owners of at least 20% of the area of land included within an area extending outward 100 feet from any point on the boundary of the land included in the proposed change.

(2) Publicly owned land shall be excluded in calculating the 20% land area requirement under subsection (1). 2006, Act 110, Eff. July 1, 2006

Mayor Mike Duggan Says Hell NO to Voter Fraud Attempts / Supports the Will and Vote of The People on Marijuana

By Richard C. Clement - Marijuana Policy Analyst and Legislative Aide to Council President Pro Tem George Cushingberry Jr.

Two new lawsuits have been filed in Wayne County Circuit Court by special interest groups to stop the implementation and enforcement of the November 7th ballot initiatives on Medical Marijuana.  The ordinances were approved by a 2 to 1 margin (60% to 40%) by the voters in the City of Detroit. Now a Marijuana business owner and two community group members want to order a Circuit Court Judge to ignore the election results based on a vague interpretation of the State Zoning Enabling Act. This matter was decided before November 7th when Judge Robert Colombo ordered that the question be placed on the ballot for the people to decide over the objections of the Detroit Election Commission.

The Voters Have Spoken, that they want to keep tokin!
#RespectTheVoteOfThePeople

The most egregious case was filed on December 7th, by VK Real Estate Holdings and the owners at 12800 E. Eight Mile Road Detroit MI (Case# 17-017221-AW) for $215.00. They are requesting that a judge issue a temporary restraining order against the City of Detroit to prevent the enforcement of the law. The next case was filed by our old friends Marcus Cummings and Deborah Omokehinde who filed their complaint on the same day for $175.00(Case#17-017320-CZ). They are a part of the Winfred Blackmon coalition of neighborhood groups that want to stop a potential billion dollar industry because of empty or non-existent Churches and, bogus day care centers set up by unscrupulous business owners to prevent competition instead sharing revenue to improve the quality of life for Detroit citizens including all Michiganders.

Mayor Mike Duggan and Corporation Counsel Attorney Melvin “Butch” Hollowell have clearly stated that they will not be pursue or support any legal action to throw out the votes of the people. Mayor Duggan does not want to be a co-conspirator in legislative Voter Fraud against the Citizens. Both of these gentlemen have strongly advised the Detroit City Council to cease and desist all attempts to disrespect and nullify the election results on November 7th.  The status of the current Marijuana is that it was fully repealed, rejected, and cannot be re-implemented by leadership for 365 after being certified by the Wayne County Clerk because the Detroit City Charter will not allow it.

The Mayor and Corporation Council leadership respects the choice of the people with their vote.  Detroit Voters continually display their knowledge, skill, and ability to comprehend and cast their vote on an issue of their choice. The people spoke loudly and clearly that they wanted to Opt Into the State of Michigan Medical Marijuana law and, address the issue of Zoning. This decision means that Detroit Police officers will not stop or arrest you for possessing Marijuana and, the re-installation of Drive Through service for patients in need. Finally there is no rule preventing Drive Through Service for example because the vote repealed all of the old Zoning requirements.

After all, Marijuana is safer than some of the big pharmaceutical  junk being given out at the drive through businesses of Wallgreens and #CVS drive through pharmacies.

Thank you Mayor Mike Duggan for respecting the vote of the Detroit Electorate!.

Votes DO count! Especially in 2018.

Detroit Votes YES to Opt Into Marijuana Industry Growth and NO to Voter Fraud Attempt by City Planning Commission

Richard C. Clement - Marijuana Policy Analyst and Legislative Aide to Council President ProTem George Cushingberry Jr.

The citizens of Detroit are very grateful to Council President Pro Tem George Cushingberry Jr, Corporate Counsel Butch Hollowell, and Mayor Mike Duggan for choosing NOT to pursue a legal challenge to the voters on Medical Marijuana Proposals A and B. This move will save the taxpayers of Detroit millions in legal fees and create additional revenue that can help defray health care costs for City Retirees. The request to invalidate the election results from the City Planning Commission amounted to blatant voter fraud and, was a slap in the face of the electorate whom 60% of them voted in favor of opting into State Marijuana Laws.  The language cannot be changed for at least 365 days after being certified by the Wayne County Clerk's office which was on November 21st, 2017.

Yes, we can all get along because the people have spoken that they enjoy tokin..
Councilmember James Tate's argument to invalidate the vote was deemed invalid because "the process" was decided by Judge Robert Colombo, who ordered that the issue be placed on the November ballot. That WAS the City of Detroit Elections Bureau's opportunity for a legal challenge and, it was clearly answered by the Judge. Furthermore, the 8 to 1 decision by the Detroit City Council to invalidate the results of the voters in Detroit stresses the need for the return of teaching Civics in K-12 education. We have way too many people saying that votes do not count and, this is a prime example of bad behavior by the City Planning Commission, reinforcing negative stereotypes to children about government.

Website: Council President Pro Tempore George Cushingberry Jr explains his objection to the Planning Commission's attempt to cancel out the votes of Detroit residents on Marijuana management in the City.

We must continue to tell our citizens that your votes DO count when you show up at the polls. We already have examples of the work by Emergency Managers that were selected, not elected by the majority of the people.

On your 2018 ballot decriminalization of Marijuana in 2018 is a strong possibility if you show up at the ballot box. You will have the choice of Voting on regulating Marijuana like Alcohol. With regulation comes the oversight needed to prevent unfair business practices. The process must be inclusive of all Michigan citizens regardless of who you are and your background like any other business.

Detroit City Airport/Tuskegee Airman Project Leaders

Going forward, we want to know where are all of those Marijuana hating pastors are when the children of Davis Aerospace needed their runway paved with new asphalt to help them in their aviation careers? Better yet, where are all them when people like Creflo Dollar and his $65 million dollar jet when he comes to Detroit to visit?  When an African American investor wanted to bring his airline to Detroit and invest his own money into the facility, the noise from this group in support sounded like crickets. There are real battles to be fought for in the growth of Detroit, and commercial Air Service at City Airport is one of them that will create jobs and opportunity for everyone.  We must refocus the energy of the clergy to remove the head in the sand attitude on change and, fight along with elected leaders to eliminate the outrageous insurance rates that are detrimental to the growth of our City.

This policy must be changed in Lansing MI and, George Cushingberry Jr has the knowledge, experience, and demonstrated ability to get the job done, especially in Senate District 2 in 2018. Some of the things he has already accomplished are, improving the City finances with 4 straight years of balanced budgets, raising reading literacy in Detroit Public Schools by reading to Children, streamlining City of Detroit technology and, promoting job opportunities at the Northwest Activities Center for anyone who is in need of a job.

District 2 City Council Candidate Debate with George Cushingberry Jr. Roy McAlister and Virgil Smith

By Richard C. Clement

On October 19th, 2017 George Cushingberry Jr. debated his challengers Roy McAlister and Virgil Smith at the Westminster Church of Detroit for the Winship Community Association Candidates Forum.
Website: 2017 Candidates Debate Forum Video Link.
In this debate he demonstrated the experience, education, and demonstrated ability to earn the write in vote of confidence to be rehired by the citizens of District 2 on November 7th.

George Cushingberry Jr. believes that literacy is the key to continue the progress of the City regarding long term future of the city with his motto:
"In order to succeed, you must learn how to read!"
A majority of the people incarcerated at the Wayne County Jail cannot read and that is a precursor to criminal behavior. Then George Cushingberry gave the audience an insight into how the city was able to turn around a grave financial situation into an improved bond rating and financial stability for the citizens of the City of Detroit.

He also gave strong financial reasons for a YES vote on Medical Marijuana ordinances 24 and 61 to opting into State of Michigan's Medical Marijuana laws.  Both Virgil Smith and Roy McAlister do not support Marijuana reform and want people to vote NO to retain the current ordinance. The current ordinance has proven to be a questionable law because it is being manipulated by scrupulous business owners who were using churches and day care centers to prevent the opening of another business instead of for true religious reasons. In many cases, some of the churches were closed and owned by the land bank and allowed to qualify as barrier to prevent the opening of another business.

Education, Experience, and Demonstrated Ability

Both McAlister and Smith sounded like Jeff Sessions and Harry Anslinger describing Marijuana as a Schedule I drug with no medical value, using that as a reason to vote NO. Whereas George Cushingberry Jr. described the benefits of voting YES to repair the financial damage to the City retirees, especially the retired police and fire employees. .

If you want a detailed presentation on the state of the City Budget, Council President Pro Tempore Cushingberry will be hosting a public meeting regarding the City of Detroit's finances on Thursday October 26th, at 6pm at the Joseph Walker-Williams Center 8341 Rosa Parks Blvd. 48206.

After further review of the candidates,  George Cushingberry Jr. has demonstrated that he is the best choice for the Office of City Detroit Council member in District 2.  Roy McAlister does not have the legislative background that Cushingberry has and, Virgil Smith is one Supreme Court Judge away from doing a two year mandatory minimum for a gun crime. Letting a Circuit Court judge condone domestic violence by their opinion does a disservice to the citizens. By not analyzing all outcomes in letting Mr. Smith run for office, the court failed the Citizens of Detroit.

When you Write-In his name on your ballot, Detroit can continue the work on the path to financial independence from all State of Michigan control and continue the progress we have made as a City for four more years.

On November 7th, Re-Elect George Cushingberry Jr. - The Man For You In District 2

Petition Complaint To Disqualify Virgil Smith from Running for Office - Due Date 8/18/2017

To all citizens, friends, and supporters of Council President Pro Tempore George Cushingberry Jr. You have until Friday August 18th, 2017 at 4:30pm to file a complaint with the Detroit Elections Commission to invalidate the Affidavit of Identity filed by Mr. Smith on April 18, 2017 with the City Clerk for Detroit City Council District 2.

Your letter must be received by this date and time to be officially logged to allow the commission to invalidate the candidacy and the votes for Virgil Smith.

For the 2,817 people who chose to vote for Virgil Smith, We hope you reconsider your vote and choose George because he is committed to raise literacy rates with Children in the Detroit Public Schools.  He has never been convicted of a crime because he is unbought and working for a greater Detroit. For those who did not vote in the primary, you voice needs to be heard loud and now. Now Virgil Smith faces the mandatory 2 year prison sentence everyone else gets for using a gun while committing a felony with no early out if he continues to pursue this course of action.

File your complaint by getting it date stamped at the Elections Bureau on 2978 Grand River Detroit, MI 48202. An example of one is below filed by Richard C. Clement. Other methods are sending and e-mail to the Election Commissioners  Council President Brenda Jones, Corporation Counsel Butch Hollowell, and City Clerk Janice Winfrey.  Your system time stamp will serve as an official record of filing.

Gun violence has no place in our city and we hope that Virgil learns conflict resolution and anger management methods. Therefore and in the name of justice and respect to the Detroit City Charter, we want the Elections Commissioners to do the right thing by unanimous vote to invalidate the Affidavit of Identity filed by Virgil Smith.

Example/Guide Letter.

Petition and Citizen Complaint

August 16, 2017

Hon. Janice Winfrey Chair
Detroit Election Commission
2978 W Grand Blvd
Detroit, MI 48202

Subject:  Petition and Citizen Complaint the Detroit Elections Commission/
Invalidation of the Affidavit of Identity Filing for Virgil Smith filed on April 18th, 2017

The acceptance of the affidavit on April 18th, 2017 for Virgil Smith to appear on the August 8th primary ballot was an error by the clerk’s office. At the time of filing, Mr. Smith, a felon was and, currently is on felony probation. The agreement with the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office specifically prohibits his candidacy. Smith executed the agreement with the advice of attorney exchange for a reduced prison sentence and dismissal of the mandatory 2 year sentence. (One with Gun will get you 2).  He is on felony probation for 5 years. The courts were lead to believe that he was not going to run for office and, gave no consideration to offending the rules and provisions of the Detroit City Charter specifically Article 2, Section 2-101.

Given the candidate’s prior history and current legal issues, accepting his Affidavit of Identity to be a Candidate for the Office of Detroit City Council District 2 was an error and, a deliberate attempt to mislead and confuse. Any votes he received are null and void.
His name appearing on the ballot is a violation of the Detroit City Charter Section 2-101 and 2-107-11 for lack of qualifications.
Therefore I and other neighbors we are requesting the Detroit Elections Commission to invalidate the Affidavit of Identity filed on April 18th 2017, and remove Virgil Smith’s invalid candidacy.

Sincerely,

Richard C. Clement - Precinct Delegate 92 – City of Detroit

14th Congressional District
We are thankful for the support in removing Virgil Smith from being endorsed as the candidate over George Cushingberry Jr. for Detroit Council District 2 by the 14th Congressional District. While we do support felons getting jobs and getting first, second, third, and fourth chances, this is not the job for him.

We are on a path to undo the damage of Emergency Managers and State Supervision of our city. Neighborhoods are composed of a community of schools and recreation centers that serve children and senior citizens.  Experience and knowledge is a crucial element in leadership and for the Detroit City Council, George Cushingberry has been a team player and catalyst for change.

We cannot afford to go back to the days electing carnival barkers and puppets manipulated by State and Federal legislators who don’t give a damn about our city. Doing this would be a fatal mistake if you do not re-elect George Cushingberry. He has demonstrated that he will fight for the people through measured protocol and tactical implementation of plans. Some of the overt examples of what has been done already are Recreation Centers and City Airport expansion.

Join us as we reflect 50 years after the Detroit Riots on the Livernois Avenue of Fashion by attending one or more of our events listed on our website starting June 1st
