On My Last Day Of Working for You In Detroit City Council District 2 - A Summary

By Richard C. Clement

I knew this day would come.  Turn in your badge, keys, and parking passes. It was a real blast!   I met a lot of wonderful people and got some things done for the City. Starting with the Detroit Fire Department in 2014, they were paying for software that did not work. In 2017 they are using the latest technology and it works for a change.

Firefighter health care will be subsidized by the Marijuana Excise Tax Fund that will pay into the First Responders Presumptive Care Fund managed by the Michigan Department of Treasury. We also helped to fix a few drain issues for constituents during the flood 2015 and, got the garbage picked up when the Advanced Disposal trucks would miss a house or two.

I truly enjoyed correcting Detroit News Editor Nolan Finley regarding the selection of Council President Jones and, Council President Pro Tem George Cushingberry in 2014. I told him that he was wrong, where he could go, and how he could go. Four years later, I proved to be right by saying that “Jones and Cush will lead a new push for a better and brighter Detroit”.

One of my proudest moments was on August 12th, 2014, when I went to Windsor Canada on behalf of American Cannabis supporters to give my deepest apologies to Marc Emery and his wife Jodie, for the cruel treatment that the United States of America inflicted upon him for selling Marijuana seeds. He is a Canadian Citizen who lived in Vancouver British Colombia and was arrested on behalf of the DEA in 1999.

Richard Clement and Marc Scott Emery 2014

He was held in a Federal prison in Mississippi for 5 years and unlike other international prisoners who are flown directly home, he was being humiliated by being forced out of the country through the Detroit/Windsor Tunnel 3000 miles away from his home.  He arrived in Windsor CA from Mississippi in shackles and chains with $170.00 US dollars and a brand new pair of Nikes. This cruel and un-usual punishment inspired Mr. Emery to embark on the largest voter registration drive to elect Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to office in 2015.

We were proud to stimulate the further development of Detroit City Airport as an Airport. We hope that hometown investors like Marcus Channey of Metropolitan Airways are allowed to invest millions into the property so that he can operate his airline from the location creating jobs. We also hope that the new Council does not foul up the progress being made for Benjamin O. Davis Aerospace High School to be relocated to the Airport grounds. When this happens, the school can restore their FAA/FCC certification program that was stolen by the mismanagement of the Emergency Managers.

We are glad that we helped Tindal Center reopen in Northwest Detroit.  We also feel that Johnson Center will be open one day. We wish Councilmember Roy McCalister the best to get this job done, along with the AMTRAK train station at State Fairgrounds.  This land is long overdue for development and it is time to quit screwing around with it.

As I leave this 13th floor office for the final time, I can say that we did “Free The Weed for the jobs we need”.   All naysayers, doubters, and talk about-ers were wrong. Despite a few in the neighborhoods who come to hearings presenting falsified data and forged documents in opposition, both Marijuana ballot proposals passed by 60%. In every precinct in District 2, voters overwhelming chose to opt-into State Marijuana laws and decide where businesses will be located and, how they are operated.  The additional revenue from this industry can help Detroit City Retirees restore some of the damage inflicted upon them by State of Michigan financial mismanagement.

Finally the experience was real and thank you all for the memories:

Sincerely,

Richard C. Clement
Legislative Aide to Council President Pro Tem George Cushingberry Jr. 2014-2017

The 2016 American Election. The Life of Marc Emery, Canada's Prince of Pot Shares his Life Story in America's Drug War

By Richard C. Clement -  Marijuana Policy Analyst

Who is Marc Emery and why is his struggle is important to you as a Voter in 2016.

Mr. and Mrs.
Marc Emery
Marc Emery is a Canadian Citizen and a marijuana activist from Vancouver British Columbia. He was labeled a criminal and ranked as a major terrorist by Attorney General Alberto “I love to Waterboard Weedheads” Gonzales who was appointed by the George W. Bush Administration. His crime was shipping Marijuana seeds around the world including the United States of America. In 2009 and at the request of the United States, Marc was extradited and arrested from his home to spend five years in a Federal correctional facility in Mississippi. While he was in jail, another man by the name of Irving Rosenfeld from Florida was and still is getting the equivalent of 2 free ounces a month grown in the same state grown for his personal use. Mr. Rosenfeld is the ONLY person in the USA who can legally use Marijuana in all 50 states without criminal penalty and, has smoked over 115,000 joints all supplied by the United States of America at the University of Mississippi in Oxford MS.

August 12, 2014
Marc Emery spent 4 years in federal prison and earned 235 days of good conduct credit and was released on August 12th, 2014 at 4:00pm.  When international prisoners get released, they are sent back home to the closest city to where they lived.  In Marc Emery’s case, he was kicked out of the USA via Windsor Canada and dumped off at the tunnel entrance in handcuffs in a T-shirt, Shorts, a new pair of Nike sneakers, and $150 in US currency. The intent was to make him suffer and walk back to Vancouver British Colombia on Canada’s west coast. In other words he got kicked out of the country like Dolomite except he did not get the damn good meal.
Marc's Final Blog as a Drug War Prisoner in America

Weed Warrior and Mrs. Jodie Emery
When America had people like Harry Ainslinger conducting a racist drug war against black people in 1932, Canada had whackos like Prime Ministers Stephen Harper, William Lyon Mackenzie King and, author Emily Murphy who published a book in 1922 that started the ball rolling against marijuana. She created the current situation in Canada regarding the plant (CBC Canada Report on Why Weed was Made Illegal). To this date Canada has NO IDEA WHY Marijuana was made illegal in the first place. There were no seizures in Canada until they linked up with the American Mr. Anslinger who hated African Americans like Billie Holiday with a feverous passion while praising Judy Garland even though they both used heroin.

Mark Scott Emery
Why does Marc Emery’s life story matter to Americans?  It is what he did AFTER he was released. Mr. Emery carried no bitterness toward his captors and was very complimentary to them when he was released. However, he vowed to register one million Canadian Citizens to vote and to campaign against Prime Minister Stephen Harper who sent him to the dogs in America.  On October 19th   2015, his efforts paid off with the election of Justin Tredeau as the new prime minister of Canada.  Mr. Tredeau has vowed to legalize Marijuana in Canada at a Federal Level.  This is a game changer on many levels and one day you may be able to cross the border with your medicine just like you do with Vicodin, OxyContin, and aspirin. The revenue from Cannabis may help the United States to pay off the loan for the Gordie Howe Bridge from Canada earlier than 30 years on tolls. That is important to Detroiters and Americans who support the reform of marijuana laws.

This year do not take the power of your vote lightly because you will have a list of people who are running for elected office in the Michigan August 2nd, primary. Take note of who is running for Judge and the Michigan House of Representatives in Lansing.

You have the power in your hands to shape the future of your City, State, and Nation when it comes to Marijuana policy with your vote. Please make sure to start from the back of the ballot and work your way to the front. This is a guaranteed way to make sure you are electing Judges who support and think like you. No one should go to jail for a plant and it is time to turn up the turnout and vote early and by absentee.  No Detroit based Marijuana business should be subjected to a Drug Free Zone restriction in another municipality like Dearborn or in Counties like Oakland and Macomb. No Pastor, Reverend or Drug Free Zone School in Oakland or Macomb County on 8 mile, especially in Royal Oak Township should be dictating ANYTHING to someone in Detroit regarding a marijuana business. Wayne County has its own set of rules and a county executive, prosecutor, and Sherriff that is doing a good job.

So stay tuned and look for the official 420 slate of potential candidates who will support laws in Detroit, Michigan, and America because, we want progressive non-partisans, republicans and democrats who want to end the War on Weed.

How to Comply with New Voter Photo ID Laws with your Selfie Stick and Cell Phone

by The Friends of George Cushingberry Jr.

With your cell phone, you can make your vote count if you do not have proper ID. All you need is your Cell Phone, Selfie Stick, and a ballot to cast.  As soon as you are denied the right to vote because of lack of proper id, you then demand to vote with a provisional ballot.  Ask to take a selfie with the precinct captain with your ballot in hand, shoot picture and cast your vote. You may want to shoot a picture of the ballot while you cast it if you feel like it.  When court action is necessary to have your vote counted because of your identity is being challenged, you have video evidence to present to dispute the claim.  Voter fraud must be stopped and, this method will aid in your voting right being protected by law, and your vote being counted.

Marijuana Provisioning Centers and Industrial Hemp progress for 2015 in the 2014 Lame Duck Session.

By Richard C. Clement

"Will the Weed truly be Freed?"  -
A Detroit Resident with a vision at the Northwest Activities Center

The possible adoption into law of House Bills 427151045439, and 5440 will create green jobs in the State of Michigan with Medical Marijuana and Industrial Hemp. House Bills 4271 and 5104 to authorize Provisioning Centers and Safe Testing Facilities for Medical Marijuana in the State of Michigan will create jobs and revenue for cash starved cities.  These bills have sparked an effort by the Detroit City Council led by Council member James Tate, Detroit Legislative Policy Division and, Building Safety and Engineering to develop a city ordinance to address the growth and management of these places of business.

We are hoping that fees are reasonable for these licenses and that people are safe in these places of business.  Just like any other business, code compliance with the Detroit Fire Marshall regarding exits and extinguishers are a must.  For places that have growing operations the city wants the electricity to be code compliant, meaning that there will be opportunities for electricians to keep places safe from burning down because of an electrical fire.

Concerns for law enforcement are a valid government id and keeping the peace therefore, the long delayed picture on the Medical Marijuana card must be addressed in Lansing. People who have Facebook and Twitter accounts and; have a Michigan Drivers License cannot use the excuse that a picture on a card gives Government too much information.

Saying No to Jim and Jane Crow!
We also would appreciate that opportunities will be diverse and include people of all racial, ethnic, gender, and other backgrounds to have an equal chance to participate in the business end instead of being a statistic in the legal system.

Educational Opportunities
Schools that participate in agriculture education would be encouraged to thrive in Michigan. Science, Technology, Engineering and Math are skills that can be developed by investing in growing and manufacturing projects.

Grow in Detroit!
House Bills 5439 and 5440 will authorize agriculture resources to grow and manufacture products from Industrial Hemp which is the male cannabis plant. The male plant is a non-intoxicant version of the Marijuana plant. Michigan farmers and agriculture concerns will be able to grow this plant for products like paper, fuel, auto body parts and many other things. When prosperity from green jobs takes effect, it will be because of people like Everett Swift of the Michigan Industrial Hemp Education and Marketing Project, www.mihemp.org, and Stephen Sharpe, esteemed board member of the Michigan Chapter of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana laws www.minorml.org. These two men are responsible for working with Michigan’s agricultural community to make Industrial Hemp use a reality in Michigan.

In order to get these bills enacted we must pass our differences across party lines. From now until next Friday, you must call and email bomb the Michigan Legislature at www.house.mi.gov about passing these bills to Gov. Rick Snyder for his signature into law.

Break Every Chain: Marc Emery's shackled ride through the Detroit/Windsor Tunnel on the way to Freedom and the Right to Vote

By Richard Clement

"Free at Last! Free at Last! Thank God almighty we free at last"   - M.L.K.

Marc & Jodie Emery
Marc Emery returned home to his wife and Canada a free man on Tuesday, August 12, 2014 @ 4:20pm EDT after serving 5 years in a US Federal Prison for selling seeds. Dressed in a T-Shirt, Shorts and, a brand new pair of Nike gym shoes, Marc was flown in shackles and chains from Louisiana to Minnesota and dropped off in Toledo where he was driven to the Detroit/Windsor tunnel.  At the Canadian border the chains and shackles were removed and, he was released to his wife at the Windsor Police Station to a cheering crowd of supporters.

Marc's Freedom Walk
He was met at the Windsor Police Station by his wife Jodie and a crowd of international supporters with some of the best BC Bud you could get your lips on. Marc Emery gave a 1 hour interview to the press and the people regarding his time in the USA.  He was VERY complimentary of the United States and the progress made in decriminalizing Marijuana and stated the USA is farther ahead than Canada and that Canadian youth must participate in the upcoming election in 2015.  Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper is about where George Bush was and, Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette is on Freeing the Weed.

Fresh out of Federal Prison
Marc’s message was very clear regarding the importance of participating in the political process by voting. He quoted Martin Luther King and is well read on the struggles of Malcolm X and the Civil Rights movement. He spent time in Mississippi with prisoners who were sympathetic to his plight and received thousands of letters supporting him from American citizens who are tired of being victims of a losing war on drugs. He was very adamant and insisted that voting is VERY important if people want true change in their communities.Currently, Marc is banned forever to return to the United States of America because of his “conviction”.  Marc made the point clear by inferring that “By voting and participating in the political process, laws will be changed so that employees of the people like President Obama, Gov. Snyder, Mayor Duggan and, other elected officials can sign laws and ordinances to remove prohibition on people like Marc Emery, Adam Brook and, Ryan Bashore so that they can travel to different countries without fear because of their political beliefs.”

Unity celebration on the
Ambassador Bridge at 4:20pm
Marc and Jodie emery are planning a 30 day tour through Canada to start the removal process of current Prime Minister Stephen Harper by registering and taking people to vote by 2015. In America, the current crop of Presidential Candidates for 2016 are totally weak when it comes to Marijuana decriminalization.  There is an election in Michigan on November 5, 2014 at 7am EDT with early voting starting two weeks prior to that date.  Voting Locations at Wayne County Community College East and West Campus have free parking whereas Election Central on Grand Boulevard is closer for people who are driving around downtown/midtown.

Jodie Emery is running for
Political Office in Canada
Finally I let him know that he is welcome to come to City of Detroit anytime and, gave Marc and Jodie a hug with an apology on behalf of the residents of District 2, the City of Detroit, State of Michigan and, the People of the United States of America for the pain and suffering that we put on his family because of failed drug war managed by few people with a misguided agenda.

Marc Emery was sent home like Dolemite with
$100 and a new pair of Nikes
