Restoring our Queen Dr. Ethelene Crockett on the new High School of Science and Technology by Every Means Necessary

The unanimous decision to re-install the name of Dr. Ethene Crockett High School of Science and Technology was a result of an elected school board acting upon a request from their employers to do so.  The installation of the Ben Carson name in 2011 was unauthorized by Detroit residents without our consent by former Governor Rick Snyder, Attorney General Bill Schuette and, emergency manager Roy Roberts.

The People Agreed, that Mrs. Crockett is the one we need!

The people spoke loud and clear to say how angry we are about how her name was removed by politicians in Lansing who did not give a damn about the Detroit Public Schools. Under their management people drank dirty water in Flint, higher taxes were levied on retirees and, education dollars were used to pay off grifters at the expense of Detroit children. For example, DPS schools like Benjamin Davis Aerospace were gutted to create for profit charter schools in Grand Rapids to the detriment of the neighborhood.

The Crockett family has a proven track record regarding her family’s contribution to the quality of life for the community. By re-installing Dr Crockett’s legacy to the Detroit Public Schools System, our citizens vow to repair the damage from 10 years of mismanagement from Lansing. The only objection to the restoration is coming from commentators on Fox “News”, people who do not live in the City of Detroit or, associate grifters who live in the city that lack a sense of community.

Who cares about the 55 former HUD employees that he hired writing a letter of support for him.  Who cares about Dr. Alveda King in Atlanta, Sean Hannity and the rest of that clown car of hosts on Fox News crying in their beer with their childish insults about the City of Detroit. Given the quality of the candidates that they support, the children of the Detroit Public School system would make better politicians than the people they endorse now from Donald Trump on down.

The fact is that under emergency management by Governor Rick Snyder, organizations like the Educational Achievement Authority that was imposed upon the Detroit Public School System got the attention of the FBI to investigate Chancellor John Covington for racketeering and fraud. As of this printing, no one was ever convicted of a crime, even though they should have,

Our children deserve better role models than Ben Carson, whose endorsement of Herschel Walker for a United States Senator in Georgia was the ultimate insult to the United States of America, especially African Americans with any sense of integrity. We cannot and, will not allow our children to be misled by outside interests who do not have the best interest of our children’s future.

Therefore, we will take back our school system one building at a time by endorsing new legislation in Lansing that will refinance our schools, pay our teachers and, bring out the best in our DPSCD students.

Finally, the family of Dr. Crockett, alumni and, supporters, want to thank the members of the Detroit Public School Board Community District and Superintendent Nikolai Vitti for supporting our choice with your unanimous vote to restore our queen, Dr. Ethelene Crockett to the High School of Science and Technology in Detroit Michigan.

Richard Clement Sr is on the ballot for Detroit School Board Candidate Vote by Nov. 3rd 2020

My name is Richard Clement and, I am a candidate for the Detroit Public School Board. I am running to promote education that will improve the quality of life in our City, State, nation, and the world. The man that freed the weed will help the children read because, reading is essential to everything in life. This includes reading the instructions on how to use Siri and, using a computer.  If you support change for the sake of our future, you must elect people who have our best interest at heart.

Retired NHL Legend Darren McCarthy and
Richard Clement.

I feel that DPS has always been the best when it came to serving the community. The district was damaged from mismanagement from Lansing and, the best way to fix it is from the top down.  On or before November 3rd, voters have a chance to elect the best 3 candidates and, recall the other four board members for not representing the will of the people.

I am a graduate of the Detroit Public Schools attending Pasteur Elementary, White Elementary, Hampton Jr. High and Mumford HS where I excelled in music and sports. Although the grades that I earned were not the top of the class, I graduated anyway and was determined to give back to my community by furthering my education past high school.

I am a graduate of Alabama State University where I majored in Computer Information Systems and a member of the Marching band. I also have experience in state and local governments in Lansing and Detroit as an information technology employee. I am currently retired from Teaching at Lansing Community College, Lansing School District, Hamtramck,  was fortunate enough to work for 11 years as a guest teacher.

While serving as a board member of Black Data Processing Associates (1990-1997), I was responsible for training disadvantaged youth on computer skills that competed and scored well in national competition with others in their age group. These students went on to be great mothers, fathers, and professionals in medicine and information technology.

I served on the boards of the Michigan Chapter of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana laws and various start up canna-businesses in Michigan. From 2014 to 2017, I worked as a legislative aide to Council-member Pro-Tempore George Cushingberry Jr advising on education and marijuana reform in Detroit. During my tenure on the Michigan NORML board of directors, marijuana was decriminalized for medical and recreational use saving the taxpayers millions of dollars in fess on legal system and generating jobs at the same time. The marijuana industry was one of few departments in State Government to show a profit. Fees were reduced because the program generated too much money at one time.

Nov 3rd, 2020 - Ballot Sample
Vote to represent with Dagnogo and Clement

From now until 8pm on November 3rd, 2020 start from the back of your ballot first and, elect Richard Clement and Sherry Gay-Dagnogo to the Detroit School Board. If I am elected this will be my platform.

  • Teacher safety and health care needs to protect them from Covid 19 and, the effects of PTSD by renegotiating contracts to allow for treating symptoms with cannabis.
  • De-emphasize test scores as a primary determination for allocating funds.
  • Increased funding of programs such as music, sports and, special education development.
  • Promote opportunities for jobs in aviation education with Benjamin O. Davis High
  • Promote the use of urban farming in and make science fun again with parental supervision to grow food, medicine and, materials like concrete with hemp.
Thank you for your support.

Should Zoning Ordinances Be Used to Regulate the Number Of Charter Schools in a City?

By Friends of Cushingberry

The growth of charter schools have created a wild wild west for venture capitalists and financial managers who manage them at the expense of the community. The result of the grand experiment of alternative education with public funds is neighborhood blight and marginal educational results.

Case in point is the Benton Harbor School District which was presented with a form letter from the Michigan Department of Treasury to cease and desist being a high school or, the school district will be dissolved. In Benton Harbor and most cities in Michigan, there are more charter schools than kids in a neighborhood. Schools of choice allows the Department of Treasury to move the children to different school districts in Michigan. It allows wealthier districts to select the athletes and top students from other districts and leave the others to rot. What you end up with is a lot of empty buildings and money wasted with the same educational results.

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer
State of Michigan

As of June 4th, Gov. Whitmer ordered that the high school and district remain intact.

The use of zoning laws to limit the number of schools that use public funds in a city would allow for better management of educational resources and, assist in bringing accountability to education.  The successful use of State zoning laws allowed cities like Detroit to limit the number of Marijuana provisioning centers in the city.  If you feel like a law like this would help contact State Senator Adam Holler or any member of the legislature to express your concerns. Especially State Rep Isaac Robertson (D-Detroit) who loves to hear from his constituents.

The damage of emergency management by State appointed to public schools can be reversed one step at a time through zoning.  Our children are worth more than $7500 a piece or $8500 if your child is eligible for special education.

Laws can be changed by changing your elected officials. Some cities in Michigan are having elections in August and November of 2019.  New and progressive candidates like Scott Hughes who is running for City Council Ward 1 in Lansing Michigan is a person who will make that change.

Ask those questions of the candidates for office and make sure to show up and vote in person or by absentee/early ballot.

Do Not Reward the Educational Achievement Authority With Your Vote

Press Release:

Education Sub Committee of
the Committee To Elect George Cushingberry Jr.
State Senator District 2

A Vote for Adam Hollier is a Vote to return to the EAA

Electing Adam Hollier as a State Senator would be a reward and a pat on the back for supervising the dismantling of Detroit’s public schools, especially workers’ rights and health care. State Employees do not need any more abuse from the failed polices of financial mismanagement and fraud. With the assistance of Emergency Managers, the biggest Ponzi scheme ever was inflicted upon the people of Flint, Benton Harbor, Hamtramck and, retirees from public service.

In Detroit and under the leadership of former Mayor Dave Bing, Adam Hollier supported the implementation of the Educational Achievement Authority, an organization that made the Detroit Public School System woefully inept.  During his tenure schools buildings were raffled off to the highest bidder and assets like computers and aircraft were sold to charter schools in Grand Rapids.  Student test scores were unchanged while chancellors, principals, and un-qualified teachers were forced upon students for financial gain.

Aviation Careers Lost at Benjamin O. Davis will now be Found.
and students will have job opportunities.

Despite the vociferous complaints from teachers and students, Bing and Adam Hollier managed to persuade two Detroit Democrats (Harvey Santana and John Olumba) to agree to expand the EAA by adding 50 more schools.  The result of this action is what you have now, Schools like Palmer Park Academy (The old Hampton Jr. High School) with ceilings falling in because of neglect. Cass Tech High school football scoreboard missing lights, new buildings being constructed when they were not needed and other atrocities committed against the children’s education.

George Cushingberry Jr. is responsible for the new development at Riverside Park

There is no coincidence that some of the same people and organizations endorsing Mr. Hollier’s candidacy were willing participants in the destruction of the Detroit Public Schools. Some of them are still under investigation by Federal Authorities for the damage done to young minds through financial neglect. By voting for Adam Hollier, this will be like putting Bing back in charge so that the complete destruction of Benjamin O. Davis High School for Aviation careers will be complete and, the guilty in Flint MI will be granted pardons by the Governor in the lame duck session.

We helped Sativa Detroit on 8 Mile and Santa Barbara shut down and move to Ann Arbor
10 jobs lost and a drop in sales at the Coney Island..

There is no coincidence that some of the anti-marijuana clergy in the community is endorsing Hollier’s candidacy. Their only job was to help businesses open up in the suburbs.  Business entities outside of Detroit used these people, fake news of crime and, the 80 year old myth on marijuana to create jobs at the expense of City residents.  Combined with the poor transit system that is currently in place and, the missing revenue from payroll, rent, and taxes, cost Detroit $3 million dollars and counting, by seconds.

To fix this mess, on June 22, 2018 until Nov 6th, 2018 mark your absentee ballot for George Cushingberry Jr. State Senator District 2 TWICE!  One vote to fill the partial term and, one vote to fill the 4 year term.

When you complete your vote, you will know that on August 8th, the people in District 2 will have a voice in Lansing. George stands for jobs, justice, and equal opportunity for all who want and desire to improve the quality of life. We must finish the job of creating a new aviation education complex with firefighter training facilities by a new aviation division of the Detroit Fire Department. The concept of a statewide flat rate auto insurance will be an action plan on the day he accepts the job.  You should not have to park your car in Ohio to get a better insurance rate.

George Cushingberry Jr feels that we must remain committed to improving literacy in our community. This commitment must include the restoration of the cuts to education at all levels. Support Teachers Everyday!!!

The time is now, register and vote, all day long.

Interest Income Report On The 34.5 Million Dollar Loan To The Detroit Pistons

Field Report Filed By:

Richard C. Clement
Legislative Aide to Council President Pro Tempore George Cushingberry Jr.

Education is not being ripped off in the new stadium, especially financial stability of the Detroit Public Schools.  One of the benefits of being a former NBA player is that you have to get from place to place very quickly. The public private partnership with the NBA Detroit Pistons has resulted in the formal plans to restore Benjamin O. Davis Aerospace High School on City Airport property. Retired NBA Legends like Earvin Magic Johnson and owners like Dan Gilbert have skilled aircraft personnel to maintain their aircraft. Why pick on the NBA? The NFL, NHL, MLB and, soccer will get use of the airport too. Along with aircraft mechanics and pilots for Oprah, Beyoncé, Rhianna, Jay Z, Michelle Obama, aviation education will prosper.  Major sports teams can get in and out of Detroit in no time at all and help the children at the same time. This goes for adults who want a career change job in aviation.

Meeting at Detroit City Council July 18th 2017
#FreeDetroitCityAirport

In the restoration plans, all FCC/FAA Certification programs will be restored from the failed policy practice of State Emergency Management.  With the help of private partners in the Tuskegee Airmen and Young Eagles program, students of all ages will be able to fly into class and work on aircraft gaining valuable career knowledge.

On July 18th, 2017, Council President Pro Tempore George Cushingberry Jr. chaired a hearing of the Budget Audit and Finance Committee with Airport Director Jason Watt regarding the future of the facility.  The reception was very positive with Council-member Scott Benson peeking in for the record. Schematic drawings for public review and comment are due by Wednesday Sept. 13th, 2017 to the Committee for the new layout of the neighborhood that includes:

  • 2-3 new runways
  • Location of New B.O.Davis High School
  • Hangar space for larger aircraft.

When the evidence is clearly presented, the return on a 34.5 million dollar investment has already paid dividends in the form of educational opportunities and, neighborhood revitalization to a blighted area of Detroit, on property that the city never lost in the bankruptcy proceedings.

This plan was supported by court after court, Judge after Judge, because their law clerks took the time to carefully read the briefs of the plaintiffs and defendants. The judgement to affirm the decision of the City of Detroit should re-purpose the wasted legal time and talent spent by the plaintiffs suing the City. We hope that in a new classroom, the plaintiffs can teach aviation law with a grant from the Detroit Public School Community District at the new Benjamin O. Davis High School on the grounds of Detroit City Airport.

Press Release - Detroit City Airport Expansion 2017-2020 (KDET)

Legislation introduced to Restore Commercial Air Service and Benjamin O. Davis High School Back to Detroit City Airport Grounds.

At the Budget/Audit/Finance Committee meeting on March 6th, 2017, a major step forward was made by the Council to restore commercial air and, help our children to achieve successful aviation careers.  A motion was introduced by ProTem Cushingberry to move Benjamin O Davis airport back to airport grounds from the Jefferson Street location.  According to aviation experts and, Airport Director Jason Watt, “with an additional 1000 of runway we could land the space shuttle in the middle of the neighborhood”.  This airport currently serves as a major hub for freight, entertainers, executives, and government officials. Notables like Michelle Obama, Beyoncé, and others often “sneak into” the City because of the close proximity to neighborhoods and downtown. Everyone that remembered using Southwest Airlines at KDET always reported a good experience.
Website: Detroit City Airport  (Arrivals and Departures) Flight Tracker

Council President ProTem Cushingberry
discussing business with Airport Director Jason Watt

The motion was approved 9 to 0 to look at using available funds to construct a new runway that would add 1000 feet so that larger aircraft could land there. This would include a runway for exclusive use by the High School and smaller aircraft.  Currently, City Airport is handling commercial air service on a regular basis.  Arriving nonstop flights from places as far France and, other locations around the world are not uncommon because of new aviation technology.  Additional traffic generating landing fee funds would assist in the construction of the new runway and high school.  We want the community to continue to demand that this City Asset not be removed or destroyed.

Schematic for a 6900ft New Runway

To allow outside interests to turn the last piece of city owned property into an industrial park is unbelievably racist and completely un-acceptable.  While students studying aviation on the west side of the state have a runway and high school on airport grounds, students in Detroit are on Jefferson Avenue miles away. No one had the decency to include a helicopter pilot program to the airport for the students either! This must change for the sake of our future.

We strongly encourage parents and children and supporters of Detroit Public schools to show their support. The plans and the funding are there now.  Now is the time to move forward to get the job done.

Taking Back Our Neighborhoods With Our Unions! AFL-CIO Apprentice Programs Bring Hope to Detroit

By  Richard Clement - Friends of Cushingberry

"There is nothing better for poverty than a good paying job"
              - Mayor Coleman A. Young

Taking back our neighborhood one home at a time with the help of our friends in the AFL-CIO has been put into an action plan in the City of Detroit. Decades of disinvestment and foreclosures have devastated Detroit’s neighborhoods. Thousands of vacant homes need extensive repair. The widespread blight and abandonment results in extremely low appraisal values making it difficult for potential homeowners to obtain financing for a home. We appreciate the assistance from David A. Eubanks Assistant Investment Officer with the Housing Investment Trust Division of the AFL-CIO (Website www.aflcio-hit.com) . Together with Councilmember Pro-Tem Cushingberry a plan was developed for the District for homes that can be saved and restored.

To stabilize the neighborhoods, the AFL-CIO has developed a strategy to identify homes that can be saved.

  1. Repairing multiple homes concurrently
  2. Use skilled and approved union contractors
  3. Attract private capital
  4. Target blocks and tracts of land within a neighborhood
  5. Guarantee the work and,
  6. Employ Local residents

(2013) 18220 Ohio  48221 - Before HIT
Council member Pro-Tem George Cushingberry Jr. and AFL-CIO leadership has identified areas in the district as a pilot so that union labor and their apprentice programs will create a job for anyone who wants one. Creating home ownership opportunities involves creating a structure so that homeowners can afford to stay in the homes. Jobs to maintain a quality of life are a priority and each one can teach one until an entire community is rebuilt for a legacy to leave behind for future generations to grow from.

(2016) 18220 Ohio 48221 - After HIT
To address the long term growth of the region, Union members are giving back to the neighborhoods through construction apprenticeship programs. With the help of the HIT program the following list of homes have been rehabilitated to be sold to families who are interested in neighborhood growth and home ownership.   Millennials who are actively working jobs and doing public service in the region are strongly encouraged to purchase a home.  If you work in the tri-county area and, are interested in establishing a foundation for home ownership are also strongly encourage to participate.

A list of the HIT property in progress in the Bagley district are as follows
17545 Plainview 48219 - North Rosedale Park
17547 Mendota 48221 - Bagley
18220 Ohio 48221 List Price $105,000 - Bagley

By partnering with financial institutions like Southwest Lending Solutions (Website: www.michiganlendingsolutions.com ) first time millenial homeowners will be given the opportunity to start a future and establish a good credit history and equity. By the end of 2016, we look forward to rehabilitating 11 homes in the City.  The goal is to provide 25 families with a place to live by December 2017.  With an investment of $1.7 million dollars of HIT funds, the City of Detroit will have another path built on the way to prosperity again.
