Cass Tech Alumnus George Cushingberry Jr (1971) - Favors Name Change of the High School and Wayne County

The time has come to change the names of Cass Technical High School and Wayne County to the name of  Jean Baptiste Point du Sable, says 1971 Cass Tech alumnus George Cushingberry Jr.

Cushingberry favors replacing their names because of the racist history toward slaves and native Americans by General Anthony Wayne and Lewis Cass. General Wayne made himself famous by slaughtering native Americans and turning the #Detroit river red with their blood as he was taking their property. Lewis Cass treatment of slaves was a documented disregard for human rights and, their quality of life.

George Cushingberry Jr.
George Cushingberry Jr.

Replacing their names with Point du Sable will a decisive action to repair many years of hurt and disrespect to people who did not have a voice or a choice in their quality of life.

The background on of Jean Baptise Point du Sable from Wikapedia:

From Wikapedia:
Point du Sable was of African descent, but little else is known of his life prior to the 1770s. During his career, the areas where he settled and traded around the Great Lakes and in the Illinois Country changed hands several times among France, Britain, Spain and the new United States. Described as handsome and well educated, Point du Sable married a Native American woman, Kitiwaha, and they had two children. In 1779, during the American Revolutionary War, he was arrested by the British military on suspicion of being an American rebel sympathizer. In the early 1780s he worked for the British lieutenant-governor of Michilimackinac on an estate at what is now the city of St. Clair, Michigan north of Detroit. Point du Sable was a prominent
As noted in EBONY magazine in 1963
[Point du Sable] is not yet honored in his own house (which Chicagoans call the "Kinzie House") or on his own land. No street bears his name and, save for the high school, he has no monument. Cadillac is honored in Detroit, Pitt in Pittsburgh, Cleveland in Cleveland—but the father of Chicago has no street or statue of stone to call his own.

Ebony, December 1963.[67]
From Wikapedia - General Anthony Wayne
On August 20, 1794, he mounted an assault on the Indian confederacy at the Battle of Fallen Timbers in Maumee, Ohio, which was a decisive victory for the U.S. forces and ended the war. Wayne then continued to Kekionga where he oversaw the construction of Fort Wayne. He then negotiated the Treaty of Greenville between the tribal confederacy and the United States, which was signed on August 3, 1795. The treaty gave most of Ohio to the United States and cleared the way for the state to enter the Union in 1803.

If you support this name change, George Cushingberry strongly recommends that you vote in August and November to elect school board members and, county commissioners that will take action instead of passing the buck of responsibility.

Tawanna Simpson For State Representative District 4

Statement of Endorsement:

On or before August 4th 2020 and, on or before November 3rd 2020, please vote to send Ms. Tawanna Simpson to Lansing as the new State Representative for the 4th House district.

She will represent the constituents interests by being a voice on issues that are vital to the district.

She will continue Issac's fight to keep the district from being a dumping ground for toxic waste from businesses.

She pledges to finish the work of Rep Robinson on House bill 5120 on expungement of criminal records) by working with Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel to lobby the Michigan Senate to pass the bill for a signature from Governor Gretchen Whitmer to make it state law.

She is totally committed to auto insurance reform that will adjust rates to relieve Michigan from economic distress. Insurance rates are a driving force behind issues from employment because of a lack of transportation choices.

She will fight to fix the damn roads in the district on advocating for road equity at the county and city level.  There is no excuse for the condition of Hamtramck Drive with bumps and potholes, while General Motors reinvests into the Detroit/Hamtramck plant.

With her prior experience as an elected Detroit School Board member, she will fight the war on poverty through supporting teachers promoting Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math careers for K-12 youth.

She supports training for careers for people who want to work in skilled trades like electricians, HVAC, plumbing, carpentry and other fields of study after the K-12 years.

She was a valuable aide to Representative Isaac Robinson on many issues and is deeply involved in community affairs. She has been endorsed by former Rep Rosemary Robinson because of her commitment to community and her work ethic.

For these reasons and more, the Friends of Cushingberry endorse the candidacy of Ms. Tawanna Simpson.

Her name will appear twice on your ballot and, make sure to mark both entries. One mark is to fill the remaining time of the late great Representative Issac Robinson and, the other mark is for a two year term of office that Isaac was going to get reelected for.

As soon as you get your ballot, make your mark on the name of Tawanna Simpson to be thee next State Representative for the 4th House District.

She will make us proud.

Marijuana Provisioning Centers and Industrial Hemp progress for 2015 in the 2014 Lame Duck Session.

By Richard C. Clement

"Will the Weed truly be Freed?"  -
A Detroit Resident with a vision at the Northwest Activities Center

The possible adoption into law of House Bills 427151045439, and 5440 will create green jobs in the State of Michigan with Medical Marijuana and Industrial Hemp. House Bills 4271 and 5104 to authorize Provisioning Centers and Safe Testing Facilities for Medical Marijuana in the State of Michigan will create jobs and revenue for cash starved cities.  These bills have sparked an effort by the Detroit City Council led by Council member James Tate, Detroit Legislative Policy Division and, Building Safety and Engineering to develop a city ordinance to address the growth and management of these places of business.

We are hoping that fees are reasonable for these licenses and that people are safe in these places of business.  Just like any other business, code compliance with the Detroit Fire Marshall regarding exits and extinguishers are a must.  For places that have growing operations the city wants the electricity to be code compliant, meaning that there will be opportunities for electricians to keep places safe from burning down because of an electrical fire.

Concerns for law enforcement are a valid government id and keeping the peace therefore, the long delayed picture on the Medical Marijuana card must be addressed in Lansing. People who have Facebook and Twitter accounts and; have a Michigan Drivers License cannot use the excuse that a picture on a card gives Government too much information.

Saying No to Jim and Jane Crow!
We also would appreciate that opportunities will be diverse and include people of all racial, ethnic, gender, and other backgrounds to have an equal chance to participate in the business end instead of being a statistic in the legal system.

Educational Opportunities
Schools that participate in agriculture education would be encouraged to thrive in Michigan. Science, Technology, Engineering and Math are skills that can be developed by investing in growing and manufacturing projects.

Grow in Detroit!
House Bills 5439 and 5440 will authorize agriculture resources to grow and manufacture products from Industrial Hemp which is the male cannabis plant. The male plant is a non-intoxicant version of the Marijuana plant. Michigan farmers and agriculture concerns will be able to grow this plant for products like paper, fuel, auto body parts and many other things. When prosperity from green jobs takes effect, it will be because of people like Everett Swift of the Michigan Industrial Hemp Education and Marketing Project, www.mihemp.org, and Stephen Sharpe, esteemed board member of the Michigan Chapter of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana laws www.minorml.org. These two men are responsible for working with Michigan’s agricultural community to make Industrial Hemp use a reality in Michigan.

In order to get these bills enacted we must pass our differences across party lines. From now until next Friday, you must call and email bomb the Michigan Legislature at www.house.mi.gov about passing these bills to Gov. Rick Snyder for his signature into law.

Taking Back Detroit One Law and Vote at a time. Removing the Mgr. of the Emergency Mgr.

by The Friends of George Cushingberry Jr.

Go Wings!
September 25, 2014 was a historic day for the City of Detroit.Starting with the ground breaking ceremonies for the new Detroit District, the news regarding the new Red Wings neighborhood development hosted by the Illich family will bring nothing but positive results for the entire tri-county region. Our friend George gave a positive and informative speech on the history of the Detroit District. He paid homage to pioneers like John Sinclair who helped revitalize historic structures like the Fox Theater and, how the once idle land will be transformed into a new business district with a user friendly, handicap accesible Hockey arena.

Vote to remove EM Kevyn Orr Result
9 Yes  0 No
Later that evening the leadership of the City of Detroit redesigned the contract of Emergency Manager Kevyn Orr to a special attorney in charge of bankruptcy. This will be his only responsibility as a contract employee of the City of Detroit. All management of City business is now in the hands of City Council and the Mayor’s office. The Police Department will be under an elected board of review as the Federal oversight has ended for the Detroit Police Department. This seven member board is composed of a representative from each district. This board will be responsible for all Detroit Police hiring, budgeting and, discipline issues.

Council President Jones and
Mayor Duggan sign Detroit's
Declaration of Independence
There is a saying that you should not hate the player but hate the game. Mr. Orr took the money and ran like the Road Runner saying beep, beep. He has indicated that he wants to return home to Washington DC with the family and that is awesome.  He will have the ability to work from home and move out of the Book Cadillac Hotel, saving the City a few dollars. Instead of hating on Mr. Orr, you want to give HIS boss Governor Rick Snyder an employee evaluation with your vote at the ballot box this October until November 4th.

Before you mark your ballot ask yourself these questions:
  • Did you approve the working instructions given to Mr. Orr to cut healthcare cost to retirees
  • Did you approve the working instructions given to Mr. Orr to tax pensions?
  • Did you approve of the position of the Emergency Manager being appointed AFTER you told the State of Michigan NO the first time?
  • Did you approve the Right to Work law?

You have the power and privilege to terminate the contract of the contractors who created this mess with your Vote.  This would be the current occupants of the Governors, Attorney General’s and, Secretary of States offices. With this change at the top, the people will have the ability to appoint sound leadership in all of the boards and authorities. Boards like Water Authorities and Belle Isle will be under new management with Mark Schauer, Mark Totten, and Godfrey Dillard as your Governor, Attorney General, and Secretary of State leading the way.

Therefore, please take the time to register and VOTE.  You have until October 4th to register to vote in the November 4th election. That means the following:
  • If you will be 18 years of age or older by November 4th, 2014 11:59pm
  • If you are NOT incarcerated at a jail or prison
  • If you have a Felony Record
You have the legal right to cast your vote on November 4th or, October if you vote early at Wayne County Community College East or West campus.

Break Every Chain: Marc Emery's shackled ride through the Detroit/Windsor Tunnel on the way to Freedom and the Right to Vote

By Richard Clement

"Free at Last! Free at Last! Thank God almighty we free at last"   - M.L.K.

Marc & Jodie Emery
Marc Emery returned home to his wife and Canada a free man on Tuesday, August 12, 2014 @ 4:20pm EDT after serving 5 years in a US Federal Prison for selling seeds. Dressed in a T-Shirt, Shorts and, a brand new pair of Nike gym shoes, Marc was flown in shackles and chains from Louisiana to Minnesota and dropped off in Toledo where he was driven to the Detroit/Windsor tunnel.  At the Canadian border the chains and shackles were removed and, he was released to his wife at the Windsor Police Station to a cheering crowd of supporters.

Marc's Freedom Walk
He was met at the Windsor Police Station by his wife Jodie and a crowd of international supporters with some of the best BC Bud you could get your lips on. Marc Emery gave a 1 hour interview to the press and the people regarding his time in the USA.  He was VERY complimentary of the United States and the progress made in decriminalizing Marijuana and stated the USA is farther ahead than Canada and that Canadian youth must participate in the upcoming election in 2015.  Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper is about where George Bush was and, Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette is on Freeing the Weed.

Fresh out of Federal Prison
Marc’s message was very clear regarding the importance of participating in the political process by voting. He quoted Martin Luther King and is well read on the struggles of Malcolm X and the Civil Rights movement. He spent time in Mississippi with prisoners who were sympathetic to his plight and received thousands of letters supporting him from American citizens who are tired of being victims of a losing war on drugs. He was very adamant and insisted that voting is VERY important if people want true change in their communities.Currently, Marc is banned forever to return to the United States of America because of his “conviction”.  Marc made the point clear by inferring that “By voting and participating in the political process, laws will be changed so that employees of the people like President Obama, Gov. Snyder, Mayor Duggan and, other elected officials can sign laws and ordinances to remove prohibition on people like Marc Emery, Adam Brook and, Ryan Bashore so that they can travel to different countries without fear because of their political beliefs.”

Unity celebration on the
Ambassador Bridge at 4:20pm
Marc and Jodie emery are planning a 30 day tour through Canada to start the removal process of current Prime Minister Stephen Harper by registering and taking people to vote by 2015. In America, the current crop of Presidential Candidates for 2016 are totally weak when it comes to Marijuana decriminalization.  There is an election in Michigan on November 5, 2014 at 7am EDT with early voting starting two weeks prior to that date.  Voting Locations at Wayne County Community College East and West Campus have free parking whereas Election Central on Grand Boulevard is closer for people who are driving around downtown/midtown.

Jodie Emery is running for
Political Office in Canada
Finally I let him know that he is welcome to come to City of Detroit anytime and, gave Marc and Jodie a hug with an apology on behalf of the residents of District 2, the City of Detroit, State of Michigan and, the People of the United States of America for the pain and suffering that we put on his family because of failed drug war managed by few people with a misguided agenda.

Marc Emery was sent home like Dolemite with
$100 and a new pair of Nikes

A VIP reception for Marc Emery at Detroit City Airport in August? Who is Marc Emery and the Importance of Voting

"Marc Emery is coming through Detroit after spending 5 years in Jail for being a florist."

By Richard Clement

Marc and Jodie Emery
Marc Emery is a Canadian Citizen that has spent the last 5 years in a Federal Jail in Mississippi and Louisiana for selling cannabis seeds in 2005.  His country’s leadership does not want him to come back. However the citizens of his home province dearly want him back.  This man was extradited to the United States at the request of the US Drug Enforcement Agency because he had a lot of American customers that wanted his products.   Now that he is almost home, he will be leaving America via the Detroit/Windsor Tunnel Tuesday August 12th in the morning.

He is leaving an America when we the people declared an end to the war on weed since the time that he has been incarcerated. Since 2005 31 states have either legalized or have pending legislation on removing Marijuana from the Controlled Substances Act. Therefore “weed the people” of the City of Detroit, State Of Michigan and United States of America would like to give Marc Emery a chance to say goodbye and apology from the People of the United States for; Wasting our monetary resources on the pain that bad policy on Cannabis inflicted on Marc and Jodie Emery.

We would like the US Marshals to fly Mr. Emery into Detroit City Airport on August 12th where an Official Welcome to Detroit gathering awaits him as he steps off the plane.  This is before he is given a motorcade to Canada via the Detroit/Windsor tunnel. He will be “processed” by the Canadian Security Agency and allowed to go home to Vancouver British Columbia via friends, supporters and, a chartered flight home.

We hope that the Emery family can come back to Detroit and party with us sometime soon. If they do come back, it will be over the new international bridge from Windsor or, purchased duty free cannabis seeds at the duty free shop on the Ambassador Bridge and bringing them to the USA.  When he comes back there will be some fine Sativa waiting for him. To make this change you have to take your bud with you to the ballot box. (Early voting in Detroit until Aug for the primary and October for the general election).. Industrial Hemp grown in Michigan to manufacture products like building materials for homes will create 10,000 jobs for citizens further stimulating the economy. Jails will have to close down because of the removal of prisoners for small drug crimes and, redirecting resources to reduce violent crime and shootings through the teaching of conflict management.

Lance Forsberg #16646-040 - Right
FCI Morgantown, Federal Correctional Institution, P.O. Box 1000 Morgantown, WV, 26507
Now that Marc Emery is leaving, we have to work to Free the Lansing Michigan 7 and other drug war prisoners from the same fate.  Before the end of Barack Obama’s term as President, he will remove Marijuana from the Controlled Substances Act and make sure that it never reappears again.

Flying KDET will soon be a reality!

"Clearly voters of Michigan are adopting absentee voting as a way of casting their ballot - as evidenced by the fact that more than 27 percent of votes cast in Michigan's 2012 election were absentee ballots.”
Once residents request the ballot online the ballot will be mailed.  The last day to request a ballot is Saturday, August 2, at 2 p.m.
