Congratulations to the NEW Detroit City Council Members 2022-2025

The Friends of George Cushingberry Jr. is extending a congratulations to:

  1. City Clerk Janice Winfrey
  2. The six new councilmembers elected to serve the 2021 through 2025 term.

We want to thank outgoing members Brenda Jones, Janee' Ayres, Raquel Castenada-Lopez and Roy McCallister for their service to the city.

The people spoke with their vote on November 3, 2021 for a new direction in our city. The council gained six new members with massive legislative experience. At large members Coleman Young III, Mary Waters, district members, Fred Durhal III District 7, Gabriela Santiago-Romero District 6, Latisha Johnson District 4 and, the sharp legal mind of Angela Whitfield Calloway District 2 will take the City in a better direction.

Citizens are guaranteed that this new city council will create an enhanced social equity marijuana ordinance that will benefit the City with reinvestment into neighborhoods. They will have the opportunity to re-develop and reinvest into Detroit City Airport for a general aviation, education and, commercial air service location.

Coleman Young III
Councilmember at Large
2022-2025

For something as simple as returning money to citizens for property tax overcharges this new City Council can take the time to right the wrong. Organizations like DTE, Detroit Water and Sewer and, others print refund checks or credits if you were overcharged for goods and services so why not the City of Detroit?

Another pressing issue for the council is the return of processing tax returns by the City of Detroit Finance Department. The contract with the State of Michigan has proven to be a disaster because, you cannot pay the city through the state website for taxes due. There have been instances where citizens were receiving letters for taxes due when they were paid off. Citizens deserve better record keeping by their government and, with a little more investment, this can be done to serve the people much better.

We hope that the new council starts to re-invest into Police and Firefighter recruitment and training. Civil service are often overlooked and deserve much respect and attention paid to their needs. This council can rectify the water situation by reclaiming the water the department from the Great Lakes Water Authority and, state appointed review boards with increased oversight to address any discrepancies in the department.

Finally, when you fix the damn water, you will fix the damn roads. In order to fix the water you have to tear up the streets to lay new pipe. When that is done, you have to repair the road and, it ends up being a two for one public service project. Otherwise Former Councilmember Pro-Tempore George Cushingberry Jr. is doing well and living in Florida. He sends his best to the new Detroit City Council and wishes them well.

Rest in Power Isaac Robinson, Your Work Will Not Be in Vain

From a constituent of  Representative Isaac Robinson

We the people have lost our representative in Lansing. Isaac Robinson was a Detroit sports fan like the rest of us. You would see him in our neighborhoods and at Detroit Lions football games. This is a huge loss for us in District 4 and the State of Michigan. In his own way, Isaac Robinson is currently leading the charge to fight the corona virus.

He would have supported the fight by bringing aircraft into and out of Detroit City Airport(KDET) with gloves, masks, ventilators, and testing kits. These supplies would be rapidly deployed into the neighborhoods to be used at recreation centers like Lasky Rec and, church parking lots by licensed medical professionals. By utilizing City Airport, identifying a virus would be much faster so that a vaccine may be developed. Products manufactured and, shipped to hot-spots in the world from Detroit would help ignite an economic recovery that would benefit everyone. We feel his spirit saying to us it is time to use every asset available in the City of Detroit to bring a solution to this problem.

To manufacture the needed equipment you need people to make it work. In order to hire them they have to pass a drug test for #Covid19 and #Cannabis.  Given the need for workers to make the things we need, Rep Robinson would have asked for an executive order from the Governor to remove all penalties for testing positive for marijuana use as a condition of employment. This would accomplish the goal of stimulating the economy by removing another barrier to employment to anyone who wants to work.

Our needs in the District will never go away. The speaker of the Michigan House of Representatives is now in charge of our votes and, we need a voice in Lansing so that our voices will never be silenced.  From now until December 31st, 2020, we are in a war for survival with our leader in the wings directing the team. Therefore we the people must finish his work by making sure that the legislation he championed for gets signed into law.

Isaac's List
  • Expungement of Marijuana penalties from a persons record and, their use as a condition of employment.
  • Equity on Auto Insurance Rates
    • Statewide flat rate reforms
  • Fixing the Damn roads
    • Fix  our Damn street with Hempcrete!
      • Hamtramck Drive around the General Motors Plant. and
      • Oakland Avenue in Highland Park MI with the help of Senator Adam Hollier's constituents and friends
  • Preventing Hazardous Waste from being dumped in our neighborhood

Therefore take the time to contact Governor Whitmer and, all the Michigan legislators in Lansing Michigan while you are sheltering in place.

Call, email or click submit because we the people are tired of it.

We the people will get the work of Issac to the house of the law in the land by; hitting the home run, making the shot from the 3 point line, sending a one timer from the blue line, putting it in on a penalty kick or, scoring on a end run because, now is the time to get the job done.

At 12:00pm and on 4:20pm during the month of April 2020, make sure you transmit your website responses by clicking the submit button on the Governor's or Speaker of the Michigan Senate website contact form.  If enough of you click the submit button at the same time while you are sheltering in place, they will get the message loud and clearly.

Gov Gretchen Whitmer

Science and education go together because like any virus, whether its on a computer or a biological one it must be defeated.

Otherwise,
Rest in Power Isaac Robinson your spirit will always be with us.

City of Detroit Supports George Cushingberry Jr! He is Going On Offense With Endorsements!

By The Committee to Elect George Cushingberry Jr.

#WeToo are Voting For George Cushingberry Jr.
We support the Detroit City Airport Historical District Plan..  #FreeKDET

It is with great pleasure to report that the City of Detroit is standing behind former Detroit City Councilmember President Pro Tem George Cushingberry Jr. He will not need to hire a private lawyer to defend himself against frivolous charges. After further review of all evidence, Corporation Council Lawrence Garcia filed a response brief with the Court in late July, dismissing the claims of the accuser Cleo Wiley Hale as an abuse of the sexual harassment #MeToo movement.

Endorsed and supported by the Cannabis Community  #VoteForCush

Strong evidence shows that she maliciously worked to sabotage the re-election campaign of George Cushingberry on behalf of other candidates and, is actively doing it again. She was responsible for the election of Virgil Smith,Roy McCalister and is currently working on the behalf of Adam Hollier. All for personal gain off the backs of Detroit taxpayers, former spouses and, others that are closely involved with her.

Adam and Scott are totally against pot!
Especially in Highland Park and Hamtramck
Vote for George Cushingberry Tuesday Aug 7th and November 6th.

We are fully expecting representatives from the female Sexual Harassment Golddiggers Union sponsored by "Progressives" PAC money to step up and attack our city in the next few hours in the information warfare world.  Just don't let them date any of your brothers, uncles, or any other male in your family. Just let Uncle Pookie,  Cousin Mike, your son or, brother come home all dinged up behind some drama, then it is a different ballgame.

The best defense of the people's money is to go on offense and cast your vote for George Cushingberry as your next State Senator.  It is your job to fight back in the information war by showing up and voting for candidates who have the best interests of the people at heart.

We endorse the use of green energy like Hemp to combat climate change

1.  Go to the www.detroitmi.gov website
2.  At the top of the page enter Cushingberry
3.  Click the magnifying glass and Read to get the information you need.
4.  If you are satisfied, then go to step 6 otherwise go to step 5.
5. Go to Step 2
6. End process.

Holistic Medicine Dr. Margret Betts is Pushing for Cushingberry

Just like he did before, during, and after any crisis George Cushingberry Jr will guide us through the storms of controversy.  Red lines belong on a hockey rink instead of a city for insurance rates and, the way to change that is to:

1.   Elect George Cushingberry as State Senator
2.   Elect Dana Nessel as your Attorney General
3.   Elect Gretchen Whitmer as your Governor

#MotownStrong

If you give George Cushingberry the opportunity to work for you with your vote, the following things will happen the next day. He will introduce legislation to:

1.  Restore educational integrity by promoting literacy, virtual education with strict oversight
2.  Authorize the Attorney General to investigate the insurance industry for their damage to our economy with outrageous insurance rates. Statewide flat rate reform NOW!!!!!
3.  Restore losses to retirees by removing the pension tax, and use collective bargaining to allow unions to cover Medical Marijuana as a treatment to lower health care costs.
4.  Declare the Detroit City Airport as a Historical District and re-investment into airport upgrades with increased landing fees, new runways and a drag strip for the automobile buffs.
5.  Prosecution of all responsible for the Flint Water massacre to save a few bucks on the backs of the citizens of Flint MI.

George Cushingberry Jr, has clear proposals to Improve Michigan.
On Tuesday August 7th, Elect George Cushingberry Jr  the man for you in District 2.

Thank you...

What Does It Take to Make A Great City and State? A Working Coleman Young International Airport and Marijuana Reform

By Richard C. Clement

What can 5 million dollars’ worth of weed do for neighborhood improvement?

Currently, the City of Detroit is in possession of $5 million dollars of Marijuana taken in a raid at Mound and 8 Mile Road on March 16th, 2018 by the Detroit Police Department.  This medicine will be destroyed along with the $5 million dollar opportunity for desperately needed revenue.  While no one has filed a claim as of yet to return the property, if this medicine is sold at a Detroit Police Auction, where do you want the money to go?

Mayor Mike Duggan
emailmike@detroitmi.gov
One asset of the City that has been maliciously neglected is the Historic Coleman S. Young International Detroit City Airport. Potential customers of the airport are 4.5 miles or 7 minutes from Downtown or live within 10 miles of the complex. Currently, the main runway at Detroit City Airport is in dire need of repair to the tune of 3.5 million dollars. This would allow newer and faster aircraft to use the facility for private and public purposes, increasing business and tax revenue for the City of Detroit. And there you go, one fixed runway with 1.5 million left for other needs.

The dismantling of the Benjamin O. Davis High School and neglect of City Airport was a criminal act that can be attributed to the work of Managers and Financial review boards appointed by State officials.  Just like the management job done in Flint MI, students were poisoned by the removal of equipment, teachers, and educational opportunities to support the Educational Achievement Authority which has turned out to be a criminal business enterprise that achieved lower test scores, empty school buildings, and a large financial debt.

Free KDET! - Call and Complain to Mayor Duggan Today!

The damage from these people is very correctable by electing and selecting people who have the best interests of the children at heart.  With new ordinances and State Laws, students in Public Education must have the opportunity to study aviation and auto mechanics careers if they are interested. The area around Detroit City Airport will allow the construction of a new runway and drag strip complex built for students gaining FAA/FCC and Auto Mechanic certifications that will help build careers.

If you want change to happen, then you must communicate to your elected officials to do the right thing. The way to do it is to call Mayor Mike Duggan and all nine council members and tell them to “Free the Weed for the Jobs We Need” by doing the following steps:

  • Re-Investing into the Airport as an Airport with a historical designation, commercial air service, and educational institution
  • Returning the medicine to their rightful owners or selling at auction with restricted funding for airport re-development.
  • Ending the moratorium by the City of Detroit on Marijuana Businesses and process applications for Marijuana related businesses.
  • Immediate Expungement of all prior and current Marijuana convictions in the City of Detroit by ordinance.

If the people’s wishes are carried out, then citizens will have regained the confidence of their government doing the right thing for them.

Detroit City Councilmember Scott Benson On The Corner with Cush at 910AM Superstation

Press Release: Cushingberry's Corner  910 AM Superstation - March 19th, 2018 6pm

On Monday March 19th, Detroit City Council member Scott Benson District 3 is scheduled to stop into Cush’s Corner on the 910AM Suuuuperstation (www.910amsuperstation.com) to talk about what's going on inside the City of Detroit.

Scott Benson District 3

One of the questions for him is the latest status on the redevelopment and restoration of commercial air service at Detroit City Airport. What is his position on reinvesting into the grounds by building a new Benjamin O. Davis High School on Airport grounds through the legacy of the Tuskegee Airmen?

Would a new runway increase the land value in the neighborhoods through landing fees from users of the facility?  And as a show of faith, what is his take on the entire Detroit Delegation to fly out of City Airport to the Congressional Black Caucus event in Washington DC instead of driving to metro?

Question: Is there an African American owned Airline in America?

Runway Neighborhood Improvement Project

Answer: YES.  Metropolitan Airways - Las Vegas Nevada www.metroairways.net

'

Other topics will be crime reduction, education and the Council's position on the 180 day moratorium on Marijuana businesses. A number of Marijuana Businesses like Sativa Detroit on Santa Barbara and 8 Mile moved to Ann Arbor. Other businesses have moved to other cities like Inkster Michigan, that have approved their ordinances by a vote of the people.

The question is, what should the city do with the revenue once everything gets settled in Detroit?

Given the City's willingness to open safe houses for Opioid use, why are we not licencing marijuana businesses instead of shutting them down? Is there a subtle hypocrisy in this policy with government providing drugs to citizens while demonizing other citizens using their medicine with criminal and civil punishment?

Is it a better financial investment for the City into Information Technology resources by taking online marijuana applications, instead of lawyers in Corporate Council allowing only paper applications?

Finally what is the status of City finances because of sharing data with the State of Michigan, allowing City taxpayers to receive their State and City return at the same time?

On My Last Day Of Working for You In Detroit City Council District 2 - A Summary

By Richard C. Clement

I knew this day would come.  Turn in your badge, keys, and parking passes. It was a real blast!   I met a lot of wonderful people and got some things done for the City. Starting with the Detroit Fire Department in 2014, they were paying for software that did not work. In 2017 they are using the latest technology and it works for a change.

Firefighter health care will be subsidized by the Marijuana Excise Tax Fund that will pay into the First Responders Presumptive Care Fund managed by the Michigan Department of Treasury. We also helped to fix a few drain issues for constituents during the flood 2015 and, got the garbage picked up when the Advanced Disposal trucks would miss a house or two.

I truly enjoyed correcting Detroit News Editor Nolan Finley regarding the selection of Council President Jones and, Council President Pro Tem George Cushingberry in 2014. I told him that he was wrong, where he could go, and how he could go. Four years later, I proved to be right by saying that “Jones and Cush will lead a new push for a better and brighter Detroit”.

One of my proudest moments was on August 12th, 2014, when I went to Windsor Canada on behalf of American Cannabis supporters to give my deepest apologies to Marc Emery and his wife Jodie, for the cruel treatment that the United States of America inflicted upon him for selling Marijuana seeds. He is a Canadian Citizen who lived in Vancouver British Colombia and was arrested on behalf of the DEA in 1999.

Richard Clement and Marc Scott Emery 2014

He was held in a Federal prison in Mississippi for 5 years and unlike other international prisoners who are flown directly home, he was being humiliated by being forced out of the country through the Detroit/Windsor Tunnel 3000 miles away from his home.  He arrived in Windsor CA from Mississippi in shackles and chains with $170.00 US dollars and a brand new pair of Nikes. This cruel and un-usual punishment inspired Mr. Emery to embark on the largest voter registration drive to elect Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to office in 2015.

We were proud to stimulate the further development of Detroit City Airport as an Airport. We hope that hometown investors like Marcus Channey of Metropolitan Airways are allowed to invest millions into the property so that he can operate his airline from the location creating jobs. We also hope that the new Council does not foul up the progress being made for Benjamin O. Davis Aerospace High School to be relocated to the Airport grounds. When this happens, the school can restore their FAA/FCC certification program that was stolen by the mismanagement of the Emergency Managers.

We are glad that we helped Tindal Center reopen in Northwest Detroit.  We also feel that Johnson Center will be open one day. We wish Councilmember Roy McCalister the best to get this job done, along with the AMTRAK train station at State Fairgrounds.  This land is long overdue for development and it is time to quit screwing around with it.

As I leave this 13th floor office for the final time, I can say that we did “Free The Weed for the jobs we need”.   All naysayers, doubters, and talk about-ers were wrong. Despite a few in the neighborhoods who come to hearings presenting falsified data and forged documents in opposition, both Marijuana ballot proposals passed by 60%. In every precinct in District 2, voters overwhelming chose to opt-into State Marijuana laws and decide where businesses will be located and, how they are operated.  The additional revenue from this industry can help Detroit City Retirees restore some of the damage inflicted upon them by State of Michigan financial mismanagement.

Finally the experience was real and thank you all for the memories:

Sincerely,

Richard C. Clement

Commercial Air Service At Detroit City Airport May Be Closer to Becoming A Reality At KDET

By Richard C. Clement
Legislative Aide to Council President Pro Tempore George Cushingberry Jr.

The recent plans advertised to shut down Detroit City Airport has created a world-wide uproar in the aviation industry. Now a grown up, former Johnson Center, 8 Mile Road youth and resident wants to give back to his home town by bringing commercial air service back to Detroit City Airport. Marcus K Channey CEO Metro Airways has a plan to install Commercial Air Service at the Airport by November 2017. As a result of the hearing conducted by the City Council's Budget/Audit and Finance committee, some good things have happened.
Website: Metro Airways

He has guaranteed that %2.5 of revenue generated by his airline will be reinvested into the City in the form of improved infrastructure like recreation centers and aviation education. The Benjamin O Davis high school will become a feeder program for the Airline to hire pilots and mechanics for lucrative careers.

Metro Airlines
The airport has drawn interest from international carriers like Al Qatar, Virgin Atlantic, and Southwest that want to have an alternative choice and provide additional service to the tri-county region. The relocation of 5 professional sports teams in the City Limits will substantially increase the value of this land. Team owners and Very High Ranking Government Officials have already made City Airport the place to be because of the close proximity to the stadiums and downtown. The plan to reconfigure the Airport with an additional runway has the support of many aviation professionals and Team Owner Dan Gilbert of Quicken Loans.

Richard Clement and Dan Gilbert Discuss City Airport

City residents will not have to drive so far to catch a flight, airlines will not have to overbook flights and forcefully drag people off of their aircraft because of their draconian policies. A joint project with developers like Magic/Redico LLC, and Rock Ventures would include assistance in building a new Benjamin O Davis High School.  Less that 2% of all people who participate in sports ever make it to the professional level from high school. Students would have a better chance of getting an S.T.E.M. career job then trying to be the next Beyoncé or LeBron James.

New Runway  33L/15R in RED

People who can afford to fly into Detroit on corporate jets do not need to be run out of town with a shuttered airport.  The new aircraft engines and technology has enabled pilots to fly non-stop from places as far as France on a single tank of gas. The airport’s current configuration will allow for passenger planes that can carry up to 130 people to come and go as they please.

According to Mr. Cheney Detroit City Airport is a Public Use Airport and a FEMA designated facility in case of an emergency. In addition State and Local law enforcement frequently use the airport because of the public use designation.  The upgrades to the airport will cost the City of Detroit zero dollars because all of the funding is restricted FAA funds.  Finally the biggest beneficiary of the Airport will be the Detroit Public School Community School District and the children who want to study aviation as a career.
