NOTICE OF REPOSSESSION

On this date at 5pm, July 1st,  2020 we the people are executing this action to restore the name of Dr. Ethylene Jones Crockett on the building at 571 Mack Avenue Detroit Michigan 48206.  Upon taking this action, we want the name and legacy of Dr. Ben Carson to be reassigned to one or more of the following institutions or programs.

  •  The Dr. Charles Wright Museum of African American History
  • Grants written in his name to improve programs within DPSCD like special education with a science concentration.

While we acknowledge his accomplishments as a doctor. His blatant support of policies that have harmed our nation is not reflective of the proud residents of Detroit who really care about people. This name change was done by a few people in Lansing who wanted to remove the history and legacy of people who fought against slavery, believed in aviation training for our children and, taught young people how to be doctors and humanitarians to their fellow citizens.  The appalling actions on the Covid-19 by President Donald Trump  supported by Dr Carson as the director of Housing and Urban Development is completely unacceptable to people who finance the Detroit Public School Districts two entities, the legacy district and the community district.

Their only goal was to loot the City of Detroit of its assets and spend the money on overpaid consultants and contractors who put profit over people. When we vote in August and November we are voting for change at the state and federal level. This attempt to re-write the history of Detroit and rob our children’s education will be stopped on August 4th, and November 3rd at the ballot box.

When you dump Trump and elect a new school board, Ben Carson’s name will be no more in District 4.Therefore, we are demanding that the current school board immediately remove the name of Dr. Ben Carson from the school and replace it with the people’s choice. Or face the consequences at the ballot box.

History of Dr. Ethelene Jones Crockett

Written by R. Wayne Hicks(1959-2018) www.electronicvillage.blogspot.com

Dr. Ethelene Crockett

My maternal grandmother, Ethelene Jones Crockett, was born in 1914 in St. Joseph, Michigan and grew up in Jackson, Michigan. She attended Jackson Junior College and graduated from University of Michigan. She married George Crockett, Jr. who was an accomplished lawyer, judge and congressman in his own right, and they had three children (including my Mom!) before she decided to attend medical school at Howard University in 1942.

Grandmother Crockett served her medical internship at Detroit Receiving Hospital but completed her residency in a New York City hospital because no Detroit hospital would accept an African American woman. She became the first Black female Ob/Gyn in the state of Michigan in 1952.

She retired from active practice in 1972. In 1978 she became the first woman president of the American Lung Association. Unfortunately, she died later that same year.

My grandmother was larger than life. I loved her very much. It would tickle her to know that her junior college created an alumni award in her name. The Dr. Ethelene Jones Crockett Distinguished Alumni Award is awarded annually by Jackson Community College. Leonard Griehs won the award this year. Mr. Griehs is vice president of investor relations at Campbell Soup Company.

I just wanted to use this post to express gratitude to JCC for creating this award and to Mr. Griehs for winning it this year. Use this post as your reminder to give your Mom or Grandmother a call! Tomorrow is not promised to any of us.

From Wikapedia: Dr. Ethelene Jones Crockett (1914-1978) was an influential physician and activist from Detroit. She was Michigan's first African-American female board certified OB/GYN,[1] and the first woman to be president of the American Lung Association.[2] In 1988, Crockett was inducted posthumously into the Michigan Women's Hall of Fame.

Do Not Reward the Educational Achievement Authority With Your Vote

Press Release:

Education Sub Committee of
the Committee To Elect George Cushingberry Jr.
State Senator District 2

A Vote for Adam Hollier is a Vote to return to the EAA

Electing Adam Hollier as a State Senator would be a reward and a pat on the back for supervising the dismantling of Detroit’s public schools, especially workers’ rights and health care. State Employees do not need any more abuse from the failed polices of financial mismanagement and fraud. With the assistance of Emergency Managers, the biggest Ponzi scheme ever was inflicted upon the people of Flint, Benton Harbor, Hamtramck and, retirees from public service.

In Detroit and under the leadership of former Mayor Dave Bing, Adam Hollier supported the implementation of the Educational Achievement Authority, an organization that made the Detroit Public School System woefully inept.  During his tenure schools buildings were raffled off to the highest bidder and assets like computers and aircraft were sold to charter schools in Grand Rapids.  Student test scores were unchanged while chancellors, principals, and un-qualified teachers were forced upon students for financial gain.

Aviation Careers Lost at Benjamin O. Davis will now be Found.
and students will have job opportunities.

Despite the vociferous complaints from teachers and students, Bing and Adam Hollier managed to persuade two Detroit Democrats (Harvey Santana and John Olumba) to agree to expand the EAA by adding 50 more schools.  The result of this action is what you have now, Schools like Palmer Park Academy (The old Hampton Jr. High School) with ceilings falling in because of neglect. Cass Tech High school football scoreboard missing lights, new buildings being constructed when they were not needed and other atrocities committed against the children’s education.

George Cushingberry Jr. is responsible for the new development at Riverside Park

There is no coincidence that some of the same people and organizations endorsing Mr. Hollier’s candidacy were willing participants in the destruction of the Detroit Public Schools. Some of them are still under investigation by Federal Authorities for the damage done to young minds through financial neglect. By voting for Adam Hollier, this will be like putting Bing back in charge so that the complete destruction of Benjamin O. Davis High School for Aviation careers will be complete and, the guilty in Flint MI will be granted pardons by the Governor in the lame duck session.

We helped Sativa Detroit on 8 Mile and Santa Barbara shut down and move to Ann Arbor
10 jobs lost and a drop in sales at the Coney Island..

There is no coincidence that some of the anti-marijuana clergy in the community is endorsing Hollier’s candidacy. Their only job was to help businesses open up in the suburbs.  Business entities outside of Detroit used these people, fake news of crime and, the 80 year old myth on marijuana to create jobs at the expense of City residents.  Combined with the poor transit system that is currently in place and, the missing revenue from payroll, rent, and taxes, cost Detroit $3 million dollars and counting, by seconds.

To fix this mess, on June 22, 2018 until Nov 6th, 2018 mark your absentee ballot for George Cushingberry Jr. State Senator District 2 TWICE!  One vote to fill the partial term and, one vote to fill the 4 year term.

When you complete your vote, you will know that on August 8th, the people in District 2 will have a voice in Lansing. George stands for jobs, justice, and equal opportunity for all who want and desire to improve the quality of life. We must finish the job of creating a new aviation education complex with firefighter training facilities by a new aviation division of the Detroit Fire Department. The concept of a statewide flat rate auto insurance will be an action plan on the day he accepts the job.  You should not have to park your car in Ohio to get a better insurance rate.

George Cushingberry Jr feels that we must remain committed to improving literacy in our community. This commitment must include the restoration of the cuts to education at all levels. Support Teachers Everyday!!!

The time is now, register and vote, all day long.

Restitution For City Retirees Under 65 are on the Horizon - Detroit Police get $3.8M in Drug Fighting Equipment - New Housing Projects for Homeless

By Richard C. Clement

At the Detroit City Council Budget, Audit, and Finance committee meeting held on September 6, 2017 at the Coleman S. Young Municipal Center, the committee set in place the plan to help repair the financial damage to the retirees on health care costs. Committee members Gabe Leland, Janee Ayres, and Committee Chair George Cushingberry Jr  reviewed a possible solution. The proposal is to help all retirees under 65 because they are not eligible for Medicare. The committee discussed the best way to help with health care cost is to get group rate health insurance by adjusting the Voluntary Employee Benefit Agreement (VEBA) that was negotiated in the bankruptcy.

City of Detroit Auditor General
Mark Lockridge
The end result would be lower health care costs for retirees and, that would be a major step in the road to financial recovery for Detroit.  On December 31st, the City of Detroit will exit all State of Michigan financial control and that will give city leadership the power to negotiate fees to sustain and elevate a better quality of life for Detroit residents.

City of Detroit Financial Team

This action was a result of a letter from Council President Brenda Jones on behalf of the Retirees to use the budget surplus as a funding source to restore the cuts suffered by them in the Bankruptcy Proceedings. The letter was sent to the Legislative Policy Division and sent to the BFA committee for their detailed review. Other funding sources are not off the table and will be brought up in committee meetings before November. On other news the Detroit Police Department’s Drug Enforcement Program was appropriated $3.8 million dollars to purchase police equipment or services that are eligible to use in Local Forfeiture funding.

New and Livable Housing in Detroit

Finally homelessness and affordable housing issues were addressed by three projects authorized by the committee.  The first one was for Kamper and Stevens to rehabilitate the exiting Kamper building and Stevens building containing 165 units of senior housing with 145 one bedroom units and sixteen two bedroom units. The next project was by Norstar development USA to create the Gardenview estates on the former Herman Gardens Housing Projects. This project will create 97 one and two story townhomes units. The final project is by Detroit Central City CMH, Inc. to develop the Saint Rita Apartments. Project. This development will consist of 26 units of rehabbed living conditions.

For more information please contact the members of the Budget Audit and Finance committee and Stay tuned for more information.

2017-2018 Hardest Hit Areas Planned Use Of Federal Funds In The City Of Detroit

By Richard C. Clement

The following map shows the Hardest Hit Fund (HHF) zones where the city is planning to spend its federal allocation of fund money. The city is constantly pursuing additional federal funds to allow it to further expand these HHF zones to include more neighborhoods. By law funds can only be spent on federally-designated areas of the City.  Under this program, Detroit can demolish publicly-owned residential buildings (four units or fewer) that are in poor or structurally-deficient condition, and are negatively impacting neighborhoods. The City also conducts emergency demolitions of privately-owned residential buildings if Detroit building officials determine they pose an immediate threat to public safety, as well as the demolition of vacant and dangerous commercial structures.
